GABLE AND EXTERNAL WALL CLADDING

We can remove your tired gable weatherboard cladding and replace it with a profile that matches the original or it can be replaced with a readily available profile in either timber, cement fibre or a lightweight 'Skyon.' The choices can extend to flat sheet panels from James Hardie that either require flush jointing and a texture coat or requires only a sealant and painted over. Timber boards are available in a tongue & groove finish wood board ('Glosswood' under undercover) or LOSP timber in a Shiplap rebated profile. Splayed weatherboard or "V" jointed or Regency profile.

MY PROCESS

Over time timber naturally is affected by the natural elements.

Timber and its structure can soon be compromised by:

  • Unsuitable timber species used, as in untreated Douglas Fir (Oregon) or Meranti sills barely classed as a hardwood

  • Exceeding the life and durability of the timber

  • Wet & Dry Rot

  • Pests

  • Poor design

  • Poor workmanship

  • Lack of regular protection

Today I cut out the affected section of timber, in order to laminate a new suitable wood in its place. My method is a long cut thus increasing the surface area needed to effectively for the glue to bond. The long cut disguises the join, once the joint is smoothed and blended.

The existing window sill is cut along the glass line and rebate. The old offending sill is removed and, after further removal of rot and its treatment, the new hardwood sill replaces the old.

The sill is machined to the slope required and attached to the edge of the existing sill and glue bonded. The joint between is covered by its timber glazing bead fully silicone to the glass to prevent the ingress of water. The slight internal corners are applied with a hybrid polymer sealer to be painted with two coats of undercoat ready for your finish coat of paint.
